Top Ten Hot Canadian Chicks

Yes, Tricia Helfer is number one. Are you seriously going to argue?

When I started researching this article, it was just an excuse to finally make use of the 'hot-chicks' tag (not to mention the new Hot-Chicks group!), but as I got into it, I really began to enjoy the hunt (and if you follow some of the links, you really can't blame me. So herewith, for your consideration, my list of the Top Ten Hot Canadian Chicks.

Note that in the interest of not wanting to create web traffic that might overload the Newsvine servers, I elected to disqualify Pamela Anderson and Shania Twain. They're pretty obvious anyway, and so hardly much fun. Then I disqualified Avril Lavigne, too...just for the hell of it.

10. NBC Foreign Correspondent Dawna Friesen. I anticipate this choice might be controversial, but hey...it's my list. And Dawna is a homey, since we went to the same journo college, so here's my plug for her.

9. Jennifer Tilly. Although eclipsed early on in her career by big sister Meg, Jennifer soon emerged as a talented actress in her own right. Besides, she loves to play poker and she's not shy about losing her shirt. Plus, you can just tell she's kind of crazy.

8. Mia Kirschner. Born in Toronto, Mia got her first real break in Atom Egoyan's Exotica. Most recently she can be found in Brian DePalma's The Black Dahlia, and in several episodes of 'The L-Word'.

7. Belinda Stronach. While perhaps struggling to keep up with some of the other entries on the list in terms of sheer hotness, Belinda nevertheless brought some much-needed glamour to Canadian politics during her high-profile tenure as the Conservative (then Liberal) MP for Aurora. And besides...she might soon be in charge of Chrysler.

6. Lexa Doig. Lexa played Rommie on Andromeda before moving on to Stargate SG-1, which means she's not only a hot Canadian chick, but she also has some serious nerd-cred points as well.

5. Shannon Tweed. This Playboy Playmate of the Year wasn't really even on my radar until the debut of the TV reality series Gene Simmons Family Jewels, where she was revealed to be warm, funny and a bit of a kook. Despite being a mother of two teenagers, Ms Tweed-Simmons is smokin'.

4. Tanya Memme. As host of the popular TV series 'Sell This House', this former Miss Canada is perky, outgoing and you can tell it would be fun to slap a coat of paint on her (I mean, slap a coat of paint on with her, of course).

3. Jill Hennessy. After starring as an assistant D.A. on Law and Order, and then moving to her new job as Dr Jordan Cavanaugh on Crossing Jordan, Hennesy is another cute Canuck with some heavy nerd points going for her. Plus she likes motorcycles. And c'mon. Check out the link.

2. Kristin Kreuk. Smallville's Lana Lang. Not being a fan of that particular series, she wasn't on my radar, either, until I started doing the gruelling research required for this article. She is now.

1. Tricia Helfer. Playing a major character in one of the most wildly popular (not to mention well-written) sci fi series in recent memory -- and a Cylon, no less, was a sure way for Tricia Helfer to rise to near the top spot in any list of Canadian Hot Chicks compiled by me. Then, she went and posed for Playboy. I may never wash my eyes again.

So, with the exception of my number one pick, which was handed to me on the wings of divine angels and is hence subject to the doctrine of Newsvine infallibility, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my picks.
