Chia Seeds: The Ancient Wisdom of the Aztecs

advertisement

Recently I have been putting chia seeds into everything. I have always been into flax and hemp, but I find chia seeds so much more versatile and easy to use.

Chia seeds are an ancient super food that has been used by the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas. In fact, Chia means "strength" in the language of the Mayans, and was considered running food because messengers could run all day with the help of these tiny seeds. Chia seeds were considered medicine and were actually prized more than gold due to their incredible health enhancing properties.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Okay, I'm sure I'll get in trouble with someone on the grounds that since this is a seed about seeds, it's meta, and I should uncheck all of Newsvine.

Lol.

Another good thing about them is that they are so easy to grow using simple terracotta figurines.

I was wondering how long that reference would take to emerge.

    Two points for Perry!

I am researcher working on the production & distribution of chia seeds. It's important to know that the chia seeds used in the Chia Pets commonly sold as gifts are not for human consumption as they have been raised with copious amounts of pesticides and their nutrients destroyed. Organic Chia seeds can be purchased cheaply in bulk at most health foods stores, or ordered online.

Chia means "strength" in the Mayan language. It is an amazing food once used by Aztec warriors preparing for battle to bolster endurance, and used today by long distance runners for the same reason. They are antioxidant rich, high in Omega-3's and 6's, are a good fiber food, and have countless other health benefits. They were one of the four key foods of the early Aztecs, Mayans and Incas who grew them in amazing floating gardens. Many sacred rituals were done to protect and preserve their chia crops.

Give it a try, it can be sprinkled in salads, made into cakes & snacks and combined with fruit juice for refreshing drinks! Or go online for numerous creative and delicious recipes for chia seeds.

Y'know what, Truthspeaker? You've sold me. Next time I'm in the bulk store, I'll pick some up.

Thanks for not letting us get away with being too silly.
